What kind of tail piece to use?
Answer: I bought these “nylgut” strings, loop-tied the ends, and attached them to the tailpiece hooks on my Deering Goodtime a little over a year ago. They don’t seem prone to breaking, but I don’t play frequently. When I do it’s all clawhammer. Not sure if that might make a difference. -
Question:
These are fatter than steel. They won't stay in the grooves of the bridge. Are there bridges with wider grooves?
Answer: They are about twice the thickness of steel. But, I my opinion, on a short neck, like a uke instrument, you might need gut because it would make the instrument too hard to fret if you were to use steel. -
Question:
Can you tune them to double C tuning?
Answer: These are low tension, you can get there though. I usually use the 5Bs for CC or G tunings. 2Bs are great for lower tunings down from G. I tune to G relative in key of E or CC relative in key of B usually, but have gone to G and CC.
